project todd: 1st shopping day

project todd is going well. we are at a good pace right now and moving along well. todd has sold his oversized dining table and chairs. and he is excited about selling other pieces that no longer work in the space.

todd and i zipcar'ed our way to ikea baltimore. yes...ikea. this maybe a bad word for many in the industry...i believe ikea can be a great resource. you just have to know what to buy at ikea-look for items that don't scream ikea. yes they exist. understand that there is nothing wrong with an ikea piece sneaking in. old & new...expensive & cheap-that is what is in now. a well designed space is one that has evolved over time.

as we trailed through the empty ikea, todd translated all the names of products picking up his favorite items requesting my approval. we left with a great chocolate brown rug...that will work as the foundation for the studio, simple white duvet cover & a white cafe table.

next on the list are the investment pieces-pieces that will stick with todd a little longer. he has to love these pieces since they will cost a little money. #1 on my list is to find great lamps. over the next few weeks, i'll stop by my favorite local stores and compile a list of my favorites to share with todd-hopefully we can purchase them in february. i'd like something funky but not over the top. also, todd mentioned a mirror he saw at pixie's-first i have to approve:) this will be the "old" needed in the studio. from his description, it sounds like it could work for the space. todd is in the process of deciding whether he will get rid of his queen bed for a full size. this could add a foot to his space...which means alot to us studio dwellers. todd and i plan on brainstorming dining chairs later this weekend. he would like industrial which i think would be great. i just got design within reach today...so my brain is flooded with ideas. this is so much fun!

Rough and Reddy is also spectacular. About 1/2 the junk in my apartment is from there.

No problem man. It's a GREAT place to check. On a side note, I want the back building of R.&R. Have you seen it from the outside? It's an old Post Office, and it's BEAUTIFUL!!! I'd love to gut the inside and make it my design studio!

i went there today and finally checked out the back for the first time. it is huge and that would be a great studio space-then you could hire me! (I didn't know it was a post office)

Yeah, you can't tell from the inside, you've got to go outside and look at the facade. The front of that building is on T.

Find anything good today?
