so the meeting with rob & carol was successful. i felt prepared and full of energy (despite having worked all morning). the farmhouse is a complete renovation-interior and exterior...the integrity of original home is respected & the renovation was "green". the layout is interesting and not straightforward....everything links well and there is a good flow from room to room. while the rooms are small, they are perfect squares-furniture layout shouldn't be a problem.

carol is very kind. she was not apart of the staging process so yesterday was the first time we met. rob is equally excited and involved in the design process as his wife, carol.

rob & carol want to do the legwork: ordering the furniture, hiring painters & picking up the furniture so they have hired me to consult with them-->provide a direction, help them discover their style & create a cohesive plan that they can follow. i feel this is a good start especially considering the limited amount of time i can devote to this project. & you got to crawl before you can walk, right?

they have hired me to work with them on the entire house. for now, we are going to focus on the following rooms: living room, den off the kitchen (are they still called dens?), kitchen-choose paint colors, master bedroom, closet-organization & master bath-choose paint colors.

this is what i learned about the clients after our first meeting:

1. no shiny chrome
2. prefer medium tone woods
3. midcentury modern-rob likes
4. modern cottage-carol likes
5. not too many straight lines
6. be careful with bold patterns
7. no typical mclean townhouse->no all beige or all white rooms
8. need color!
9. no shag rug
10. no platform bed
11. no purple
12. guest friendly
13. more storage
14. function first then stylish
15. don't like overdecorated spaces

i've got a lot of work!!! rob & carol are very open (which makes a perfect client-in my opinion). we clicked and they seem to really trust/respect my eye for design.
